escort cage problems, dusty BMW e30 and l'etacq attack rally
Переглядів 63321 день тому
It has been a mad rush trying to get the cage finished before the rally but it didn't happen so good old faithful (the BMW e30) was pulled out the garage and basically had the door numbers changed, tyres pumped up and fuel added. Great car and we finished 15th which i am very happy with as there were a lot of big power cars competing. Goretie was great in the navigators seat especially as she h...

the jersey international motoring festival. this is a small fraction of what goes on over the 4 days. I was so pleased to have survived the 1/4 mile sprint on the motorbike (Aprillia Dorsodoro 750cc) as it really scares me. 115mph over the finish line it was such a buzz when we are lucky to get to our usual 40mph speed limit. i wish i could ride it around corners so i could have a go at a hill ...
Fitting of the Ford Escort mk2 roll cage
Переглядів 373Місяць тому
The original cage was non compliant with the regulations for cat 2 rally cars as it had bends in the door bars and also needs to be 45 x 2.5mm minimum unless homologated. The original cage was mainly 38mm. I had to stop fitting the cage as i have asked msuk for conformation on cage joints before i go any further. Hopefully i will get a reply soon and can carry on. not looking likely that i will...

Charity fancy dress auto solo at ronez in the 328i BMW compact. I was batman but couldn't drive with the cardboard stomach. Goretie was Alan from the hangover and won the best fancy dress award. Great day but very slippery in places and we had lots of spins.

It was a bit of an odd day where i wasn't feeling it. I was in the bmw compact with the 2.8 engine. i tried using the hydraulic hand brake but it wasn't working very well. The hill was quite green but still more grip than i expected. This is my only run out of 7 runs that wasn't full of mistakes. It was still a great day and there is another 2 day hill climb soon which i will hopefully drive be...
Tim and Luke trying to do some laps without using the brakes due to lack of pad material.
Переглядів 1443 місяці тому
I have just done a track day in the bmw compact and after the first session realised that there was no pad material left on the front brakes so i had to slow it down on the main straight and use the gearbox to slow us down in the corners, Thanks Luke for keeping me company and having a laugh. I think we were all a little hung over

Cracking rally with very little grip. we used cut slicks on the front and old yokohama gravel tyres on the rear. Im not sure any combination of tyres would have provided any grip.

one of the Jersey crew had big head gasket problems with his bmw e36 compact 328i while competing in the Bovington rally. He had just bought the car and this was his first tarmac rally. So how do you have the intake manifold setup are you using stock icav and throttle body?
It has e36 itbs with the centre pair removed. It was really easy to do and I did a video on it
Great video! I really enjoyed your explanations of what you were doing throughout :)
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed watching it
Looks incredible mate looking forward to seeing everything in action, I'm going to miss the ol m42 as it's been a big inspiration for my up and coming stroker m44 e36 build. Very keen to see what the future holds!! Much love from down under, champion!
The m42 will still be around as I love that engine. Looking forward to trying the Vauxhall engine out
What a pain the new regs are. Seems to be too much room for what could be incorrect interpretation. And the scrutineers will each have their own view. Looking forward to the rest of the build.
I was watching the build on ShrigleyTube and when it was mentioned it was being built for Tim in Jersey, I wondered if it was you. And so it was😁
Yes Andy is a legend. I am hopefully fitting the engine once the escort is ready. Looking forward to trying it out
very cool ! Witch ECU do you use?
The Ecu is a dta t series. Once the car is up and running I will get it mapped
Have you tried the bread method on the pilot bearing? Worked great on my M42!
Estoy haciendo lo mismo pero no puedo sacar el filtro que va abajo de la bomba, y en la parte del video que lo saca, esta acelerado eel video y no entiendo como sale !
The 60g shift sounds a lot less clunky than the 15g. Can you use the flat shift ecu on both?
Yes the 60g is more refined and lighter but I presume the 15g is much stronger. Yes I have the geartronics flat shift on both boxes and it transforms them
Hi Tim, This is great stuff! Do you know how long the shafts are? I'm building a slightly different setup with the press-through hubs from an E34 and I was wondering if the same shafts would be OK to use.
That’s great. I hope your build goes smoothly
Tim, you absolute beauty. Such a good insight on solid tappets and valve train. you've made my life significantly easier. will carry this info over to a forced induction build 👍
No this kit was bought second hand and came from Poland but is very similar to the hockey kit
Hiya. Is the body kit from Harry Hockley!!
Nice
Nice :)
That 2.5 litre engine that was discussed near the end of the video, was that based on the M44 block? I'd love to see that in an E30!
it was going to be for the m42 block. unfortunately it wasn't cost productive unless 4 cranks were made and it was getting expensive. Shame as it could have worked really well
@jerseytim100 That's unfortunate but understandable. I guess most people would go for a 6 pot engine if they wanted more displacement. It would have made a great alternative to an S15 and with a less weight at the front end, compared to the M50, etc.
Hopefully you see this tim , which kit are you useing ? Feel free to drop me a pm
The kit I bought was second hand, very old and no longer available. Pesch in Poland do a similar one
Thanks tim appreciated
Whenever im feeling a bit down, this video picks me straight back up again! Unlucky Tim 😂
nice work sir - gosh you were very calm when you discovered the seat mounts - I think I would have freaked :) - I like the mock up with the drain pipe - very clever - keep up the good work
Thanks Kevin. That seat rail was worrying, hopefully there are no more surprises for me
There an exemption on the front leg double bends on a escort it's in the blue book
That’s interesting and I know the blue book isn’t the easiest to read and find things in but from what I read it said it can only have 1 bend unless a windscreen pillar reinforcement is fitted. If the cage is homologated it can have any size tubes and bends wherever it wants. Do you know where it is in the blue book? I have got a front leg made and am going to refit the seat just to check there is still plenty of room to get in and out. An additional bend could be helpful
Maybe it's only for homologated cages then, I know there was a big thing a few years back when at some rallies they would allow cages on escorts with double bends but it was resolved. I've got a safety devices cage and that is double bend without screen bracing
I know I’m incredibly late but how much wider did it make it the trailing arm swap I’m thinking about adding a 2.8 rear end to a 1.9 zed and I’m curious how far it’ll push out the wheels I’ve heard 2.5 inches but I’m not sure if that’s right or not
I did measure it and put it on one of the videos but that was a long time ago. I have some wide arms somewhere and will measure them when I find them and post the width difference
@@jerseytim100 thank you you have no idea how helpful that’ll be
@@Skillerj7 I’ve just measured the z3 wide body arms and the e30 325i arms. the z3 are roughly 50mm wider per side. The e30 arms are slightly narrower than the e36 compact arms. I hope this helps
@@jerseytim100 that may just work it’s 2 inches but I think I may be able to run them with a custom driveshaft made and the wheels would still be under the fender I’m going to put the wide fenders on eventually but I’m waiting until I get the car repainted which I’m in no rush to do as it’s in great condition already I appreciate the time you took to do that thank you
@@Skillerj7 when I fitted them to my e36 compact I used e36 328i driveshafts which worked fine
Entertaining, as usual, Tim!
are we going to see a jerseynathan100 channel?
Hey so I’m looking to do something similar to my e30. Just to clarify, you have e36 m3 diff outputs, e24 half shafts and then which hub/axle stub combo are you using? E28?
they need to be the 3 litre e36 m3 diff outputs as the 3.2 had a bigger diff
@@jerseytim100okay thank you. Yes to the e28 stuff on the hub side?
Did it get some brake pads yet?
No as I didn’t want the additional weight plus there must be another 10 miles at least left in the old ones
😅 my palms was sweating
At first I thought: lucky mistake. Second thought; on purpose skilled. 3rd thought was; mistake correct very skilled and maybe a lil lucky😅. It seems kind of dumb to put something that’ll damage the car 🤷♂️ . I mean it’d be better than going into the trees but why not make it something less smashy to car😅. Idk why they do this. I imagine it’s for good reason but sometimes that’s not always true.
I did similar last year ua-cam.com/video/RMlidaSTISA/v-deo.htmlsi=8C1k0oVf4odJCgtd
You could have said “hello again” for me
Haha I didn't know you were recording that! That was good fun😂
Did you tell everyone afterwards, "yep, I meant to do that"? 🤣 Great save, well out!
I got recommended this vid on my home page, did not regret clicking on it. Cool move dude!
Thank you. It was great fun
Was it just a rear lock or anything special?
@@barnabas.csermely I think it was caused by carrying too much speed and a rear compression lock up
@@jerseytim100 really well handled! Wish you the best
Did you machine the valve cover o its aftermarket?
The guy who built the engine machined the cam cover
thanks i was thinking about do it in mine @@jerseytim100
What a trip down memory lane!! I saw the Bovington Stages about 25 years ago!! Love the E30 too. Is it a genuine M3? Would love to know more about that in any case. 👍
Yes it’s an excellent venue and I am looking forward to going back. Sadly it’s not a genuine M3 but if it was I would probably be too scared to rally it because of their value. I have loads of videos on the channel going through the build as it was done from a bare shell
Thanks for the reply. I'm a first-time visitor to the channel (the Bovington title caught my attention), so I'll go back though your past videos to check out the build. Thanks again and good luck with the rest of the events this year.
@@mickrichBMXWRXJapan thank you, enjoy the videos, some of them are particularly useful if you are struggling to get to sleep ;)
Very impressive keeping up with R5
He must have had a problem or something, when he put his foot down he was gone. Brilliant to be amongst with a cracking view
nice work sir
Thank you. There was a lot to do on a deadline but satisfying when it started
What diff ratio do you have.l? My e30 m44 junior rally car has 5.43 with original 5 speed.
i have a 4.4 with 16" wheels and seems to work very well
@@jerseytim100 im guessing you use typ 188? And do you use full racing slicks or normal summer tyres? We use semi slick tyers on street legal rally cars with out the rollcage.
Looks like fun.
it was great fun, can't wait for the next one
You done well considering you have done it on your own
Thank you. A ramp would have made life much easier
M52B28 with M50B25 intake winning concept 👌
I am really impressed with the way these engines perform with the m50 inlet. I have some s50 itbs that I want to try next as I imagine the intake sound will be amazing
